Jim Allen
Jim Allen, Vice President of Information Technology, Protective Life Insurance

Mr. Allen has been Vice President, Information Technology of Protective Life Corporation since 1992. He is currently responsible for shared enterprise systems including Financial, Investment Management, Commission and Compensation Systems, Enterprise Content Management and Business Process Management. In addition, he manages the company's IT Metrics and Quality initiatives. Other assignments have included direction of the company's data center operations, mainframe, midrange and server systems, workstation support, database administration, Internet systems and voice/data communications. He joined Protective Life in 1981 as Programming Manager and directed the conversions of the company's systems to an IBM environment. He has been actively involved with Protective's acquisitions since the late 1980's. Previously, he worked at the University of Alabama in Birmingham as manager of the Macy Research Computing Center; while at UAB, he served on the faculty of the Computer and Information Sciences Department teaching a variety of undergraduate courses.

Mr. Allen earned a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He holds the designation Fellow, Life Management Institute from LOMA. A member of the Association for Computing Machinery, he has served on the Auburn University MIS Advisory Board and worked with the UAB School of Business in development of a Large Systems curriculum.

Walt Otis

Walt joined RHI in 1999 where he started as a Field Support Engineer and in addition to his role in North American Data Center Operations (where he joined in 2007), he has consulted with RHI Global Data Center Leadership and IT teams in APAC and EMEA to design the data centers in those regions.

Joseph Keena
Joseph Keena, Manager of Data Center Operations, Shands HealthCare

As Shands Healthcare Manager of Data Center Operations, Joseph Keena is responsible for Shands' data center day-to-day-operations, as well as spearheading the implementation of new technologies, including the recent deployment of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solutions. During his tenure, Shands' data center operation has grown to four data centers and is one of the most efficient in terms of managing data center resources.

Before joining Shands in 2002, Joseph worked in computer sales, programming and managing a desktop support team for NYSE&G in New York. Joseph received a Data Processing degree from Herkimer County College in New York. Joseph is married with two children and enjoys volunteering at his local community theatre in his free time.

KC Mares

KC Mares, President & CEO, MegaWatt Consulting and CTO of Unique Infrastructure Group

KC Mares has been focused on energy efficient data centers for nearly 15 years, designing, building and operating data centers in over 20 countries. As CEO of MegaWatt Consulting, KC has completed data center site selection, design and efficiency projects for Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Equinix, NCAR, LBNL, US DoE, and many others. He has led the design of over $10 billion of data centers, all with industry leading energy AND cost efficiencies.

KC is also the CTO of Unique Infrastructure Group, the company developing the Reno Technology Park, the largest dedicated data center campus in North America with on-site renewable energy generation.

For the last three years, KC has chaired the SVLG Data Center Energy Efficiency demonstration program, and recently, KC led Yahoo!'s worldwide data center strategy, development and construction, leading the construction of over $1 billion of energy efficient data centers. He has worked for many industry leaders, including Google, Exodus, and Sun Microsystems, leading data center operations, development, design and implementing energy solutions. His work has earned numerous awards, including twice EnergyStar Partner of the Year, and is a pundit of long-term energy solutions that improve the quality of life, environment and sustained economic vitality.

Willem Cilliers

Willem Cilliers, Freelance Architect and IT Consultant

Willem Cilliers is a freelance Architect and IT Consultant with nearly 40 years of experience in designing and delivering medium- to large-scale solutions in Application Development, Architecture Governance, IT Outsourcing and Business Process Optimization. Willem has led teams in implementation of business systems using architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and Zachman to unleash enterprise potential. He has rich and varied architectural design and solution implementation skills across multiple data processing platforms.

Willem's experience spans the gamut of data processing. He started as an application and systems programmer, and then joined IBM South Africa initially as Systems Engineer. He took a three-year assignment as an IBM instructor on mainframe systems, and later left IBM to launch his own consulting company. He emigrated to the US and became a contract instructor for Novell and Microsoft, while developing his skills as an IT consultant.

Willem rejoined IBM as a Business Intelligence Consultant and later transferred to a position as IT Architect, taking leadership roles in business transformation projects in the Insurance, Finance, Healthcare, Transportation and Retail industries.

When not enjoying the challenges of solving complex business problems, Willem continues to develop his skills as a classical guitarist and amateur photographer, enjoys travelling to countries where he doesn't understand the language and no longer participates in adrenaline club activities.

Willem received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics & Computer Science from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He was awarded an MBA in Information Systems Management from MIU in Iowa.

Greg Bush

Greg Bush, Senior Manager at SAP Americas, Inc.

Greg, a Senior Manager at SAP Americas, Inc., has 37 years of facilities operations experience. Greg currently operates one of the firm’s global Data Centers in California. Using his knowledge and experience, he has creatively reduced the power utilization equivalency (PUE) from the original design of a PUE2 of 3.3 down to PUE2 of 1.33 today with significantly reduced uptime risk. This facility’s data center has had several USDOE white papers published regarding such accomplishments as the first Bay Area data center to use a fresh air economizer and then the first Bay Area data center utilizing heat recovery to serve the office building’s occupied spaces.



Greg has collaborated with Bay Area data center design engineers to develop even lower PUE strategies in new design build projects. Currently, Greg is developing a water side economizer strategy to further lower the PUE2 for the SAP DC he manages utilizing a variety of simple to intricate applications of science and physics.

Greg is a Certified Energy Manager and a graduate of BOMII. He currently sits on the USDOE’s steering committee for the Data Center Certified Energy Practitioner education program.

David Shroyer


David Shroyer, Senior Critical Facilities Manager at Citrix

David Shroyer is a DCEP assessor with recognized expertise as a building Controls Engineer based on thirty years experience in the HVACR industry; of which eighteen years has been focused on operating, programming, designing and engineering Building Automation and SCADA systems interfaces at major corporations on successful projects to reduce energy costs reliably, and in a scalable, cost-effective manner.

Matthew Zeier


Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations, Mozilla Foundation

Matthew Zeier is the Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations at Mozilla, where he leads a global team of more than 40 who manage Mozilla's networks and servers including six data centers, and keep Mozilla's Web properties and services online. Matthew joined Mozilla in March of 2006 as the very first network engineer.

Matthew has been tinkering with computers since he was a kid when his father would bring home an Apple II during summers. At age 9 he found copy of Compute! in the neighbor's trash and started computer programming. In college, Matthew started his passion for IT when he volunteered to do tech support for a local ISP. Since then, Matthew has worked as a network engineer at InteleNet Communications, Inktomi Communications and 3Com, among others before joining Mozilla.

Matthew studied Computer Science, from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He lives in the East Bay with his wife and two kids and is an active road cyclist.

Jason Weckworth

Pat Lynch

Pat Lynch, Managing Director, CBRE

Pat Lynch joined CBRE in 2011 as Managing Director within CBRE's National Critical Environments Practice Group. In this role, Pat is responsible for directing transaction management services for organizations needing data center and mission critical facilities solutions nationwide. He works closely with CBRE's Global Director of Critical Environments, concentrating on facilities management services, as well as with transaction and project management teams within CBRE to devise integrated end-to-end business solutions for CBRE's corporate services and brokerage clients. Pat is based in Denver, CO.

Pat is a proven and successful leader with a commercial real estate career that spans 20 years. With a specialty in real estate transactions in international telecommunications and data center development, his expertise strengthens the company's ability to integrate CBRE's expertise in critical environments and site selection with additional key services critical to clients, including design, construction and facilities management. Further, these specialties in data center and mission critical facilities, global corporate service delivery and portfolio optimization, combined with Pat's senior management experience, provide him extensive understanding and a proven record of successfully executing multi-million dollar transactions in site acquisition and development.

Most recently, Pat served as a Managing Director of the Corporate Services Organization and National Director for their Data Center Group at Grubb & Ellis. He was also a Managing Director for CRG West/Coresite, where he was responsible for site acquisitions, construction and operations of the company's mission-critical assets. Additionally, Pat spent 11 years as Global Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities for Level 3 Communications, managing a portfolio of more than 15 million SF of properties spanning across North America, Europe and Asia, including more than six million square feet of mission-critical facilities.

Lane Patterson

Lane Patterson, CTO, Equinix

After serving in many roles in telecom and Internet companies, Lane Patterson joined Equinix in 2000 and is currently our Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Equinix, Mr. Patterson was Director of IP Network Management Systems for Global Crossing, Inc. where he supported a global IP backbone and first generation content distribution centers. At Metropolitan Fiber Systems, he lead operations of mid-Atlantic Frame Relay, ATM, and related data networking services, as well as the MAE-East Internet exchange point during the first wave of commercial ISP growth. Mr. Patterson has a deep background in the technologies related to telecommunications, Internet routing, and data center computing infrastructure.

Mr. Patterson received a B.A. in Physics from Cornell University and an M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University. Matt Price
Matt Price, VP Channel Development, Enlighted

Matt Price joined Enlighted as VP Channel Development in 2012. Prior to Enlighted Matt was a Principal at the venture capital firm, Nth Power, where he led investments in a broad range of energy and cleantech investment areas including materials and nanotechnology, fuel cells, biofuels, advanced lighting, and smart grid technologies. Matt was active on the boards of Propel Biofuels, Precursor Energetics, and Topanga Technologies.

Prior to joining Nth Power, Matt was a materials engineer and business development manager for Franklin Fuel Cells. During this time Matt established and ran the company's fuel cell testing capabilities and helped the company raise venture and government funding. Matt also worked for Bloom Energy as a Product Manager.

Matt is Kauffman Fellow, received his MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, and holds a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University. Matt co-founded the Berkeley Energy Resource Collaborative (BERC).

Robert Ule

Trent K. Tanaka

Trent K. Tanaka, Director of Audiovisual Technology, Information Resources and Technology, Stanford University School of Medicine

Trent K. Tanaka directs a department in Information Resources & Technology (IRT), AV Technology. Providing the AV standards for buildings throughout the Stanford University School of Medicine, his department consists of a high-level, specialized group of individuals with both AV and IT programming, administration, integration and support backgrounds. They support over 7 buildings, maintain over 300 computers, and manage over 8,000 pieces of audio-video technology. In addition to the learning spaces, they architected and maintain the MediaFlow video capture system which delivers over 10,000 hours of content per year to the medical students. The AV Technology department also maintains a groundbreaking Simulation Center incorporating a cutting edge blend of AV and medical simulation technologies to train current and future doctors.

Prior to shifting his career path to academia, Trent spent over a decade in multiple San Francisco Bay Area commercial broadcast television stations and multimedia start-ups. Trent was honored with multiple Emmy nominations and was the winner of numerous national television awards. He has led projects in academia that were recognized as the "Best High Tech Classroom" from Campus Technology and most recently the AMX Innovation Award for the "Best Automated Campus". He holds a bachelor's degree from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California.

She received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Phoenix and is a 2009 Leadership Fellow for the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. Louis Schump, LEED AP, is a Vice President and Senior Interior Designer in HOK's San Francisco office. He is responsible for directing the interior design of many of HOK's most creative and distinguished projects in the corporate and commercial market. His projects include both integrated (architecture and interiors) and standalone interiors projects. As a LEED AP with a strong background in workplace, Louis designs spaces with a keen understanding of how building inhabitants interact with their environments on issues ranging from collaboration to energy consumption and management. Louis has also served as the design lead on several of HOK Product Design's most innovative products.

Bruce Myatt
Bruce Myatt, Executive Vice President, The Data Centers LLP

Bruce Myatt, PE is a registered Mechanical Engineer in California, Founder of Silicon Valley's Critical Facilities Round Table (CFRT), and Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of The Data Centers, LLC (TDC) in San Francisco. He has over 30 years of engineering consulting experience working with critical facilities such as data centers, semiconductor fabs, nuclear power plants, and DOE's nuclear weapons production facilities.

He helped develop studies and programs that established the foundation for EPA's 2007 Report to Congress on Data Center Energy Efficiency, and has since helped lead the development of designs of state-of-the art data centers for the world's largest internet and technology companies, and for supercomputing facilities at DOE and R&D sites. He is now leading designs for alternative and renewable energy solutions for data centers and is developing advanced "off grid" computing facilities for TDC.

Bruce is a member of the Board of Advisors and Technical Columnist for "Mission Critical" Magazine; member of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Energy Committee; Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sigma Phi Delta International Social-Professional Engineering Fraternity; and, recently, a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area.

He pioneered the development of data center air flow "best" practices and has been selected as a technical advisor by five government and utility groups focused on Data Center Energy Efficiency solutions. He has provided data center presentations to audiences at conferences for Data Center Dynamics, 7x24 Exchange National Conference, Uptime Institute, and twelve other well-known data center conference hosts.

Brian Janous
Brian Janous, Utility Architect – Data Center Advanced Development Global Foundation Services, Microsoft

Brian is responsible for leading the development and execution of Microsoft's global data center energy strategy. These data centers provide the foundational cloud infrastructure for over 200 Microsoft online and cloud services for consumers and businesses worldwide. His responsibilities include the oversight of all energy supply agreements, distributed generation, and strategic partnerships to ensure a power supply that is reliable and sustainable. As part of the Data Center Advanced Development team, he supports efforts to create end-to-end strategies that will drive innovations in the next generation of Microsoft data centers.

Brian joined Microsoft in 2011 after 12 years in the energy industry where he worked as a Sr. Consultant at Brubaker & Associates, assisting Fortune 500 companies and government entities with energy procurement, policy and sustainability matters. Brian holds an MBA from Webster University, a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Missouri and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Missouri.

Robert Krizman
Robert H. Krizman, President, The Data Centers, LLC

Robert Krizman, PE is President and co-founder of The Data Centers, LLC (TDC). He is currently developing the first self0powered high density power plant to be located on the campus of the University of Delaware in Newark. The first phase of this new project will provide over 96,000SF of high-density computing space up to 600 w/SF. The Facility will be completely "off-grid", deriving power from a dedicated, purpose built CHP plant with a rated capacity of up to 248MW. When complete, the facility will support four times the electrical density of today's aging data centers.

Mr. Krizman was Senior Vice President in the Data Center Solutions National Practice for Jones Lang LaSalle. As the National Technical Team Lead, he oversaw the design and construction of over $1.1B in mission critical projects. He has managed projects throughout the United States, Canada and in London including the One Bryant Park headquarters for the Bank of America and the Empire State Building renovations. Mr. Krizman has worked for Sprint Telecommunications, Clark Construction Group and Union Carbide Corporation bringing with him a wealth of project management, industrial construction and operating experience in areas ranging from telecommunication to energy conservation to power plant and industrial process control experience.

Mr. Krizman holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a MS in Engineering Administration from the University of Tennessee. He is currently licensed to practice engineering in New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Tennessee. He chaired the Energy Conservation and Advisory Committee of Montgomery County, MD and was a contributor to the National Energy Measurement and Verification Standards (NEMVP) developed under the auspices of the US Department of Energy. Mr. Krizman has coauthored articles for the Mission Critical magazine on the development of off-grid computing centers.

Allan Leinwand
Allan Leinwand, VP and CTO, Platform Development, ServiceNow, Inc.

Mr. Leinwand is currently VP and CTO, Platform Development at ServiceNow, Inc. (NYSE: NOW). In this role, he is responsible for all software teams building the company's Platform-as-a-Service cloud computing offerings for enterprise IT. Before joining ServiceNow, Mr. Leinwand was Chief Technology Officer – Infrastructure at Zynga, Inc. In this role Mr. Leinwand was responsible for all aspects of technology infrastructure used in the delivery of Zynga's social games including data centers, networking, compute, storage, content distribution and cloud computing. Previously, Mr. Leinwand was a venture partner for Panorama Capital, LLC where he focused on technology investments in data networking, open source software and cloud computing. Prior to this role, he joined JPMorgan Partners as an operating partner in 2004. In 2005, Mr. Leinwand founded Vyatta (acquired by Brocade), the open-source networking company.

From 2001 to 2004, he was President and Co-founder of Proficient Networks, Inc. From 2000 to 2001, he was Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering at Telegis Networks, Inc. In 1997 Mr. Leinwand joined Digital Island, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISLD) at inception and served as their Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer through the company's IPO and secondary offering.

From 1990 to 1997, Mr. Leinwand served as Manager of Consulting Engineering and Senior Software Engineer at Cisco Systems, Inc. helping to build and engineer service provider and enterprise networks worldwide. He co-authored "Cisco Router Configuration" and "Network Management: A Practical Perspective" and has been granted a patent in the field of data routing. He currently is an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Berkeley where he teaches the subjects of computer networks, network management, and network design.

Mr. Leinwand holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Indu Kodukula brings over fifteen years of technology innovation and business leadership to Limelight Networks, including over 10 years in senior executive and general management roles. Prior to joining Limelight, Kodukula held the position of executive vice president, products and chief technology officer for SunGard Availability Services where he was instrumental in driving product development and launching an industry-first, enterprise-grade Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud offering. Earlier, he served as vice president of products for Oracle's Communication Service Delivery Platform, where he grew Oracle's SDP revenue by 400% over a two-year period. He also served in operational roles at BEA Systems, McKinsey & Company, and Silicon Graphics.

Mr. Kodukula holds a PhD in computer science from Cornell University, and a BTech in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology.
