Jonathan Koomey

Jonathan Koomey is a Research Fellow at the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford University, worked for more than two decades at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and has been a visiting professor at Stanford University (2003-4 and Fall 2008), Yale University (Fall 2009), and UC Berkeley's Energy and Resources Group (Fall 2011). He was a lecturer in management at Stanford's Graduate School of Business in Spring 2013. Dr. Koomey holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Energy and Resources Group at UC Berkeley, and an A.B. in History of Science from Harvard University. He is the author or coauthor of nine books and more than 200 articles and reports. He's also one of the leading international experts on the economics of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the effects of information technology on resource use, and the energy use and economics of data centers. He's the author of Turning Numbers into Knowledge: Mastering the Art of Problem Solving (which has been translated into Chinese and Italian) and Cold Cash, Cool Climate: Science-Based Advice for Ecological Entrepreneurs (both from Analytics Press).

Serena Devito

Serena Devito is an Advanced Data Center Engineer in the Hardware Engineering team for eBay Inc, the world's largest online marketplace. Serena joined eBay in 2011 and is responsible for modular data center solutions and the convergence of data center infrastructure and server architecture to enable industry leading efficiency. Since joining eBay Serena has installed 6 modular solutions enabling rapid server installations while achieving sub 1.1 PUE efficiency goals. Prior to eBay Serena was a Data Center Architect at Oracle and came through with the acquisition of Sun Microsystems in 2010.

Serena grew up in Tasmania Australia and holds a degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Adelaide. She joined Sun Microsystems in 1997 with a career spanning systems administration and managing corporate IT email messaging services and production beta testing for Sun Cluster, to executing extensive technology refresh programs and management of numerous global datacenter builds including leading the two largest infrastructure consolidations in Sun's history and designing numerous data centers around the world.

Bruce Myatt
Bruce Myatt, Executive Vice President, The Data Centers LLP

Bruce Myatt, PE is a registered Mechanical Engineer in California, Founder of Silicon Valley's Critical Facilities Round Table (CFRT), and Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of The Data Centers, LLC (TDC) in San Francisco. He has over 30 years of engineering consulting experience working with critical facilities such as data centers, semiconductor fabs, nuclear power plants, and DOE's nuclear weapons production facilities. He helped develop studies and programs that established the foundation for EPA's 2007 Report to Congress on Data Center Energy Efficiency, and has since helped lead the development of designs of state-of-the art data centers for the world's largest internet and technology companies, and for supercomputing facilities at DOE and R&D sites. He is now leading designs for alternative and renewable energy solutions for data centers and is developing advanced "off grid" computing facilities for TDC. Bruce is a member of the Board of Advisors and Technical Columnist for "Mission Critical" Magazine; member of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Energy Committee; Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sigma Phi Delta International Social-Professional Engineering Fraternity; and, recently, a member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area. He pioneered the development of data center air flow "best" practices and has been selected as a technical advisor by five government and utility groups focused on Data Center Energy Efficiency solutions. He has provided data center presentations to audiences at conferences for Data Center Dynamics, 7x24 Exchange National Conference, Uptime Institute, and twelve other well-known data center conference hosts.

Scott's background also includes leading global data center operations at AboveNet, the world's 2nd largest data center provider at the time. Early in his career he founded an early regional Internet service provider, as well as one of the first integrated voice/data companies. In addition to physical infrastructure, Scott also has past experience in application development, telephony, systems & network administration, and education technology. Throughout the years, he has led invention of several patented technologies, and has contributed to various open source projects. At the end of the day, Scott like to think of himself as a common man, who is fortunate enough to work on extraordinary things.

Jawahar Swaminathan

Jerry Green

Jerry Green As the Global Lab Solutions Design Manager for Labs and Lab SME. Jerry has a very broad set of responsibilities and organizational interfaces. He is also the author and content expert for a 200 page Global Lab Standards Documents which not only covers basic lab infrastructure and planning but also Energy Management, Network & I.T. design as well as system and product specifications. As facilities liaison to Engineering teams and management He has opportunity to influence, guide and support many client initiatives and programs that are a part of Lab policies and development, aspects of product development and also to be the conduit for ideas and collaboration between facilities and Engineering lab organizations. Being an active member of the Engineering Lab Council he is involved in various client related support activities and opportunities. Related to not only labs but I.T. networks in general, He is the facilities representative to the I.T. Cable Management organization who is responsible for the design and specification of our Network Infrastructure, where I consult and contribute to the Network Standards document for which this group is responsible. As a 15+ year veteran of facilities Program Management Jerry also possess a lot of valuable historical knowledge of past construction and designs, He also has had opportunity to build and maintain scores of valuable relationships with individuals and teams across the area and actively collaborates with every aspect of facilities and particularly support various aspects of his core organization, the Workplace Solutions group. While referencing internal facilities support we must also mention his mentoring, influencing and support to our Global Partners organizations as well as the Architects, Design Engineers and Contractors of all kinds that deliver services to the facilities organization. Jerry is a veteran of Silicon Valley Fortune 500 companies, which have included Cisco Systems, Applied Materials, Intel, Loral Systems, Westinghouse Electric and others. His background and experience is in the Design, Construction and Operation of Technical Facilities such as R & D labs, Data Centers and Manufacturing facilities. He is recently responsible for the Operational and Physical Design for R & D LAB facilities globally, totaling over 2 Million sq. ft. with more than 20,000 racks of operating networking and data processing equipment. For the past 5 years he has also been the initiator and driving force for the Smart PDU Program and Standards, teaming with their Engineering Operations group and Green Energy Management Systems (GEMS) organization which earned the 2013 GEIT award.

Prior to joining Fresenius, Nathan owned and ran a very successful computer, networking, and security service and support company in Utah. He was also the IT Manager for Century 21 Adair a leading and growing office of Realtors in northern Utah. Nathan holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Information Systems degree. He is a member of CoreNet and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Energy Committee and is also on the board of directors of the Guadalupe River Park Conservancy and the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was the founding board chairman of the Moffett Park Business and Transportation Association and is a past board president of the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce.

Using his multi-faceted perspective on teaching, learning, and technology, Andrew has helped lead technology systems planning and design for renovation and new building projects on academic campuses across the United States. Andrew has participated in the discourse on learning space design and technology in EDUCAUSE Review, a chapter in the ELI e-book on learning spaces, a student input design tool to the ELI Resource Center, and numerous presentations on learning technology topics for EDUCAUSE, Campus Technology, SCUP, EDUCOMM, and other education-oriented conference events. Andrew is a research collaborator at Stanford University's Center for Design Research and a Board member at Penn State's Leonhard Center for Enhancing Engineering Education. In addition to his technology-related professional activities, he has taken an active interest in promoting student innovation since 1991 when he founded the Envisioneering program at Penn State. Andrew served on the Board of Directors for InfoComm International from 2012-2013. Andrew holds B.S. (Honors) and M.S. degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering at the Center for Design Research at Stanford University, where his work focused on developing and evaluating pervasive computing collaboration technologies to support distributed engineering design teams.
